When it comes to getting behind the wheel, safety is priority number one, especially if you've got a family. Thankfully, we've got all kinds of options that fit the bill in our new and used car dealer in Toledo, OH. But determining a make and model is really only half the battle. So to help you go the rest of the way in keeping your kids safe on the road we thought we'd offer up a few tips.
- It all starts with the child seat. Of course you want to select one that fits your youngster, but also be sure to get one that complements the model you're driving. It will certainly make fitting easier, and most importantly, it will ensure that your precious cargo is as safe as possible.
- When it comes to installation, resist the urge to be a hero and follow the manufacturer's directions to a tee. If you're missing a part, a bolt, or something looks out of whack, don't wing it; just exchange it for a seat that's completely up to snuff.
- Finally, make sure that that car cradle is in the right position. From infancy to three years of age, your child will benefit the most from a rear facing seat. From four to seven, spin them around to face forward. Once their eighth birthday rolls around, you can swap out the seat for a booster until they're about twelve. When the rear seatbelt fits over the thighs (not the midsection) then you can leave to booster behind.
