Two eco-friendly LEAFs were generously donated by Nissan to help start a fleet of green, electric taxis in an effort to keep the environment in consideration as the planning process for the event intensifies. This step, however, is only the beginning. Two vehicles may not seem like many, but the number will increase to 15 next year, and assumingly more by the time 2016 rolls around.
Commissioner of Rio de Janiero's department of Transportation Carlos Roberto Osorio says, "In view of the major events to be held in Rio, we can improve the visibility of clean-energy vehicles so that production and consumption models can be changed to a sustainable system."1.
