It may seem hard to believe, but the devastation wrought on New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 is still being cleaned up. Nissan has been generous from the outset, and the brand entered into a partnership with Habit for Humanity to help provide homes for those who need them. Since 2006, the Japanese automaker has donated $9 million to the cause, along with providing 111 new Nissan vehicles to help the relief effort.

And recently, the partnership with Habitat for Humanity was taken even a step further, as anoher collaboration has come to light. Joining with the Heisman Trophy Trust, the three will work together in New Orleans to construct a home for the Lightfoot family.

Famed Heisman Trophy winners like Eric Crouch, Mark Rozier, John Lattner, George Rogers, and Johnny Rogers will work alongside the family  to help construct a home for Alden Lightfoot, his partner, and the couple's three children together. The family had previously been living in a small, one-bedroom apartment.

When asked about the effort, Nissan marketing vice president George Rogers says, "Nissan is committed to improving the communities where our employees and customers live. We are grateful to these athletes for joining in this one-of-a-kind partnership to build this house alongside a New Orleans family."1.
