The Nissan LEAF sales might be
slightly less than what Nissan would call optimal…at best. Nonetheless, Nissan
is not losing face because they are predicting a quick turnaround for their
rising star.
One thing said to improve the process is the fact
that production of the Nissan LEAF will be moving to the United States in Smyrna,
Tennessee.
As soon as this December, the Nissan LEAF will be
in full production mode in its Tennessee plant, and will have the capacity to
create up to 200-thousand units and
150-thousand battery packs a year. Nissan is putting a lot of faith into making
this a more 'local' car, and feels it has the possibility of selling as many as
20,000 units by the end of this year.
We have to bit, that goal may be a little over
zealous, but hey, if you don't aim high, you may never know you're full
potential. We support them 100%. After
all, they are used to going against the odds.
If nothing else, U.S. production of the LEAF will make
the vehicle more readily available. This will help Nissan to fully capture the
EV's potential. It is very clear that the American population is embracing
alternative energies with the hopes of decreasing pollution, and spending less
at the pump. Up until now, the EV has
not always been available to all markets.
